The image I have chosen is from 'The Guardian' newspaper. Although this image does not use any of the arbitrary, iconic, or indexical signs, I chose this image because I feel it could be interpreted in many different ways, also known as the term 'Polysemic'. The fact that the man is shown in the foreground of the image and in the dark shows that he may be leaving the city; maybe he had a dream and ambitions which he could not fulfill, or he may be fed up with the city life, and want to move somewhere different, maybe somewhere like the countryside or a more posh place.
The fact that half of the image is covered with the dark strip which is meant to be the ground on which the person is walking; if you look in the background, the ground is covering the bottom half of the skyline, which could symbolically present the city as an ugly place, rather than what everyone else sees it as a beautiful city. I think that the darkness in the bottom of the image is very effective as it shows there is something about the city which does not make it a very pretty place or the place of 'dreams' as people believe.
